Air New Zealand Limited is principally involved in providing air passenger and cargo transport services within New Zealand, as well as to Australia, the South Pacific, Asia, North America, the United Kingdom and most recently Canada. Air New Zealand directly serves 48 cities including 26 destinations within New Zealand. On an average day it makes more than 500 flights. In the financial year to June 30, 2006, it carried more than 11 million passengers. Flights range from a 25 minute trip from Wellington to Blenheim, to a 13 hour 30 minute, 11,084 km flight from Los Angeles to Christchurch, one of the longest in commercial aviation.

Air New Zealand recently refitted all eight of its Boeing 747s with new interiors and introduced eight new Boeing 777-200 aircraft to its long haul fleet. The airline has also placed an order for eight Boeing 787-9 ‘Dreamliner’ aircraft expected to arrive in 2010.
